The Permanent Mission of Afghanistan to the United Nations serves as the legitimate and accredited diplomatic representation of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. In the wake of the Taliban’s takeover in August 2021, our Mission has resolutely stood as the voice of the Afghan people, advocating for the rights and aspirations of the most vulnerable and suppressed communities in Afghanistan. We are committed to representing Afghanistan with dignity, honor, and integrity, tirelessly defending the legitimate rights of all Afghans on the international stage. Our core mission is to uphold and protect the fundamental human rights of every Afghan, including women, youth, and minorities, while striving for a peaceful, stable, and prosperous Afghanistan that embraces inclusivity and democracy.

At the United Nations, we engage proactively to advance Afghanistan’s interests across critical areas such as peace, security, development, and human rights. Our primary goal is to ensure that the rights of all Afghans are safeguarded and respected in accordance with the UN Charter and international human rights standards. Biography of Mr. Naseer Faiq

Mr. Naseer Faiq is a highly regarded diplomat who currently serves as the Chargé d’Affaires of the Permanent Mission of Afghanistan to the United Nations in New York. His distinguished career in diplomacy began in 2005 when he joined the Afghanistan Foreign Service, marking the start of a journey characterized by dedication to public service and international relations.

Over the course of his career, Mr. Faiq has held numerous prominent positions within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan. Notably, he served twice as the Deputy Director General for the Regional Cooperation Directorate, from 2012-2013 and again from 2016-2019. His experience at the Permanent Mission of Afghanistan to the United Nations is extensive, having served as Minister Counsellor, Counsellor, and Third Secretary between 2008 and 2019. These roles have equipped Mr. Faiq with a deep understanding of the complexities of global diplomacy and international cooperation.

Mr. Faiq has represented Afghanistan in various international forums, advocating for critical issues such as human rights, regional cooperation, and political coordination. His leadership was pivotal in Afghanistan’s successful election to the Human Rights Council in October 2017, where he played a central role in negotiating important resolutions and outcome documents that have shaped global human rights policies.

Educationally, Mr. Faiq holds a bachelor’s degree in Administration and Diplomacy from Kabul University and a master’s degree in Administrative Science from Fairleigh Dickinson University. His academic credentials, combined with his extensive diplomatic experience, make him exceptionally qualified for his current role.

Appointed as Chargé d’Affaires of the Permanent Mission of Afghanistan to the United Nations in December 2021, Mr. Faiq has demonstrated unwavering commitment, leadership, and professionalism. His role is critical in representing Afghanistan’s interests on the international stage, and his expertise continues to be an invaluable asset in navigating the complex challenges facing his country.
